This book is a must have for teachers, parents and well any adult whose involved with children and wants to help them learn about sportsmanship. The book is beautifully illustrated so that the colors and pictures themselves alone would catch the attention of any child. It's perfect children in the 4-8 year old range to be read to or to learn to read themselves as the writing is direct, clear and suited for that age range.
I had my 10 year old daughter Sian read it to a friend's daughter Dakota who is 6 years old. Having her do this worked out beautifully she had the 6 year old's attention and I could tell by watching them that Dakota was interested in looking at the pictures too. There were a few giggles here and there and a comment about Harold being a bad sport (at the beginning of the story) which was wonderful because that meant that the message of the story was getting through. I think it's a very well written book that teaches children the lesson about being a good sport in a fun way and captures their attention through the wonderful illustrations. I'm not the only one who thinks it's a wonderful book. Here are but a few quotes from people who have sent in their reviews about this book. I love the one from the first grader. You can see more reviews HERE Quote# 1 Thank you for writing to us to be respectful for other people. –Ilia, First grader, Sherman Oaks, California Quote# 2 My students didn’t have a grasp of the word “sportsmanship” before we started reading the book. They thought it was just “play nice”, “do your best,” and even “try hard to always win.” After reading the book, we had great conversation and they did a drawing/write about how they could be a good sport and use sportsmanship. They did some great work; we made a class book which they love to read. It’s very important to teach them the correct vocabulary, like “sportsmanship” The website where you can find out more about the series of the Harold B. Wigglebottom book is wonderful to visit. They have animated books posted online in addition to songs, games, and you can print your own coloring book too! Check it out HERE. The Harold B. Wigglebottom Learns Sportmanship gets a two thumbs up from Powered by Mom. Now for the giveaway! 1. Those books are sooooo cute! I'm always looking for books to read to my students to open our social skills units. I love the one on bullying and sportsmanship. (I could use these NOW!) ha

  2. This makes me laugh! My sister Annie and I used to play Monopoly when we were young. I would get so mad at loosing that I've been known to throw the board up in the air! Just found our a few years ago that she would "let me win" because she got tired of cleaning the game up!lol Gosh, I miss those days...

  3. I was often a bad sport quietly in my head. It can get pretty noisy in there!
