Everyone's making something! Playdough Recipe!

Everyone’s making something!
Need something to keep little hands busy when you’re trying to cook and the step your on isn’t safe for little fingers?  Make them some play dough to pretend to bake with!  Best part it lasts about 6 months!  I love homemade play dough, the color is what the kids like and it doesn’t cost a bundle.  I use old baby food jars to store it, saving even more and they are re-usable for when you make more every 6 months.

You need:
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1 tablespoon cream of vinegar
  • 1tablespoon vanilla (or scented oil of your choice) (optional)
  • Food coloring or tempura paint (optional)
  • Saucepan
  • 1 cup flour

Start by mixing the water, oil, salt, vinegar, and food coloring in a saucepan and heat until warm.

Remove from heat and add the flour and the vanilla or scent if you choose.

Stir, and then knead until smooth. Vinegar makes this dough last 6 months or longer!  Now divide and store in your chosen container (plastic bag, baby food jar, etc).
Gather your old kitchen utensils: sifter, spatula, crab hammer, garlic press, or whatever is safe and a creative way for your kids to explore their play dough!  No need for you to buy expensive toys to play with just rummage through your old utensils and use an old pop bottle for a rolling pin!  Set the kids up while you cook for some uninterrupted recipe action!
